Charlotte Schools Kick Off New Year With 73 Teacher Vacancies
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools are short 73 teachers and 39 bus drivers, the school district said.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Monday was the first day of school for nearly 150,000 Charlotte-area students, but there were some notable absences, according to school officials, who say scores of teaching and bus driving positions remain unfilled.
At least 73 teaching positions and 39 bus driver jobs remain unfilled on the first day of the 2019-2020 school year, which began Aug. 26, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.
CMS’s total teacher workforce for its 175 schools is 9,401 certified teachers, according to the district.

The CMS school bus system is the largest in the state, with about 127,000 student riders and a fleet of nearly 1,100 buses, CMS said.
If you’re a parent of a student who gets off at one of the school district’s 31,000 school bus stops, the school district is encouraging the use of its free bus tracking app, “Here Comes The Bus.”

“Families can download the app and have access to real-time location of their child's bus on a map as well as scheduled and actual arrival times at their assigned stop and school,” according to CMS. You can find more information about how to download the app here.
