Charlotte Schools Make Decision On Jan 19 Classes

Schools in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County will be closed Friday, Jan. 19 as the region continues to thaw out from this week's snow storm.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Classes have been canceled for the third day in a row in Charlotte and throughout Mecklenburg County as the region continues to dig out from this week’s snow storm.

Officials with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said schools will be closed for all students, while all CMS employees will have an optional teacher workday beginning at 10 a.m.

All evening events on Friday are being canceled, as well as athletic activities and Community Use of School events, CMS said.

“Although some main roads may be clear after Wednesday's snowstorm, many neighborhood and access roads are not, especially in the northern part of our Mecklenburg County community,” CMS said in a statement Thursday evening. “Sub-freezing temperatures are again expected overnight, resulting in refreezing and dangerous road conditions in the early morning hours. Temperatures and travel conditions are forecast to improve throughout the day.”

According to the school district, the fall end-of-semester exam schedule will resume on Monday, Jan. 22, and conclude on Wed., Jan. 24, with early release for high schools on all three exam days.
