🌱 Charlotte Water Lantern Festival + NC Bill May Legalize Hemp

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charlotte.

Hey, Charlotte! I'm here in your inbox this morning to get you caught up on everything you need to know about what's going on around town. Hope you all have a great day.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and pleasant. High: 80 Low: 62.

Here are the top three stories today in Charlotte:

  1. Police received a call about someone trying to enter an apartment off of Daybreak Drive in north Charlotte. Soon after, they received a call from another apartment on the same road with a woman saying a man entered through a window and sexually assaulted her. The suspect was 28-year-old Robert McFadden. Officers arrested McFadden and charged him with two counts of first-degree forcible rape, two counts of first-degree sex offense, one count of first-degree burglary and other offenses. (WBTV)
  2. North Carolina General Assembly seems close to passing a bill legalizing hemp. According to a reporter from Fox46, "Senate Bill 762 is about growing hemp for industrial products. The bill would allow farmers to continue to grow the plant as a foundation for the fiber found in rope and garments and other products but also for the CBD products, such as oils, vapes and other consumables. The difference is that these products are very low in intoxicants, such as THC, and serve more to soothe people than to make them high." (Fox46)
  3. The community located along Monroe Road is using art to connect. The Monroe Road Advocates (MoRA) created a project that allows its residents to feel seen and appreciated. The people who worked on this project created sidewalk murals along east Charlotte that share the stories of its residents' inclusivity and diversity. (CharlotteNC.gov)
