According to WBTV, "Chick-fil-A Cox Road plans to bring nearly 115 full-time and part-time positions to the community and recognize 100 local veterans by providing them with free meals for a year." WBTV reported that this new location will be an active participant in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table™ Program, which is "an initiative that redirects surplus foods from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, food banks, shelters, etc." (WBTV)
  2. According to the Duke Energy News Center, Duke Energy recently announced its "$1 million grant opportunity through the Duke Energy Foundation for North Carolina nonprofit organizations working for social justice and racial equity." It plans to award $25,000 grants for general operating funds at eligible nonprofits. "For many years, we have supported and partnered with nonprofits across the state working to eliminate systemic barriers. As we recognize there is more work to do, these grants will support organizations on the front lines advocating for racial equity," said Stephen De May, Duke Energy's North Carolina president. (Duke Energy News Center)
  3. Krispy Kreme is launching the "I Heart America" collection — a new line of red, white and blue donuts — to celebrate the 4th of July. It will serve these America-themed donuts for a limited time. According to Patch reporter Jeffrey Perkins, "the Charlotte-based chain also announced it is giving away free donuts to patriotic patrons. Any customer who wears red, white and blue to participating stores will receive a free donut of their choice every day through July 4." (Patch)

  5. According to WCNC, "a bipartisan federal gun control bill signed into law last week includes $750 million to help states pay for red-flag or extreme-risk programs. However, WRAL News found Republican legislative leaders in North Carolina don't seem to be swayed by the prospect of new federal money. They say it would infringe on people's Second Amendment rights." A court hearing would be held within a short time frame for gun owners to try to get their guns back. (WCNC.com)
