Child Hit, Killed By Vehicle Near McClintock Middle School

A child was hit and killed by a car near an east Charlotte middle school Thursday night.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police have launched an investigation after a child was fatally struck by a vehicle near an east Charlotte middle school Thursday evening.

The Dec. 5 crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. along Rama Road and Cabotwood Lane, near McClintock Middle School.

According to WSOC, the child was a student at the school, where there was a basketball game scheduled at the time of the incident.

First responders transported the child to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The wife of the driver, who was transported to an area hospital because of a blood pressure spike, told the station that the child darted out in front of the car and that her husband was very upset.

CMPD said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing and asks that anyone with information about this incident call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
