City’s New Rules Kick Scooters Off Uptown Charlotte Sidewalks

New 'pedestrian only" sections of sidewalks will require e-scooters and bikes to ride on streets in specific areas of Uptown.

CHARLOTTE, NC β€” Electric scooters and bikes will now be sharing the road with vehicles in some areas of uptown Charlotte, which has has designated sections of sidewalk as β€œpedestrian only.”

The City of Charlotte painted the β€œpedestrian only” markings on sidewalks in the area bound by Church Street, Stonewall Street, College Street and 7th Street, it said Thursday.

β€œBike, e-scooter and e-bike users should ride on the street in this restricted area,” it said.

The e-scooter share model program launched in Charlotte in May 2018 and city leaders adopted permanent rules regarding their use last month.
