CMPD Nabs Murder Suspect Wanted In Double Shooting

Charlotte police have charged a man they say is behind a May that left one man dead and another shot in the leg.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- CMPD has charged a man it says is behind a double shooting in May that left one man dead and another shot in the leg.

Larry Darnell McVay, Jr., 18, was taken into custody at his home June 27 and charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, CMPD said.

Officers responded to the May 29 late night shooting and found Daveon Antonio Andrews, 18, lying in the intersection of Rozzelles Ferry Road and Oregon Street, dead from a gunshot wound. A second gunshot victim was found at the Fast Stop convenience store about a block away, police say. He had a non-life threatening gun shot wound in his leg and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

The double shooting on May 29 occurred near the intersection of Rozzelles Ferry Road and Oregon Street / Google Maps
While officers were processing the crime scene, more shots were fired from a nearby location. No one was injured and CMPD said it was not immediately known if the shooting was related to the homicide or directed at someone specific.
