CMPD Officer Charged With Assaulting Woman At Pool
A Charlotte officer who was already on unpaid leave following an internal probe into another matter, was charged with assaulting a woman.

CHARLOTTE, NC — A Charlotte police officer has been charged with simple assault after an altercation at swimming pool at a southeast Charlotte apartment complex over the weekend, a spokesperson for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Thursday afternoon.
The charges against Officer Alex Milhazes, 29, stem from an incident that occurred around 6 p.m. on June 9 at a pool located in the 9500 block of Lucy Jane Lane.
A woman told police that he identified himself as a security officer at the apartment complex, and “pushed her and then slammed a gate on her ankle during an altercation,” CMPD spokesperson Rob Tufano said in a statement.

The victim appeared before a magistrate, who issued a criminal summons for Milhazes, he added.
Milhazes, who was hired by CMPD in 2013, has been on unpaid administrative leave since early February following an unrelated internal affairs investigation, Tufano said.

“As is standard procedure when an officer is accused of a crime, a separate internal investigation is being conducted to determine whether Milhazes violated any CMPD policies or procedures,” CMPD said.
