The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education approved two principal appointments at its Dec. 10 meeting.

Kristen Hackl was named principal at Devonshire Elementary. She has been the Title I new teacher support coordinator for the Northeast Learning Community since 2016. Hackl was a principal at the Socrates Academy in Matthews from 2013 to 2016, principal and chief executive officer at Imagine Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship in Penn. from 2011 to 2013 and assistant principal and curriculum coordinator at the Environmental Charter School in Pittsburgh from 2008 to 2011. She was a Title I math coach at the Urban League of Pittsburgh Charter School in Pittsburgh from 2006 to 2008, a teacher at Kennesaw Charter School in Ga. from 2003 to 2006 and a teacher at Jolly Elementary in DeKalb County Schools in Ga. from 2002 to 2003. Hackl has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from St. Mary’s College in Ind. and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Carlow University in Pittsburgh.

Samantha Mazzone was named principal at Reid Park Academy. She has been an assistant principal at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School since 2016. Mazzone was an academic facilitator from 2013 to 2016 and a teacher from 2010 to 2013 at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. She has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Queens University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.
