Cost To Gas Up In Charlotte Before Christmas 2017 Travel

CHARLOTTE, NC — If you're planning to drive to a holiday destination in the next few days, you'd be wise to fill up the tank here in town before you depart. That's because, according to GasBuddy.com, Charlotte gas prices are around 23 cents cheaper than the North Carolina average.

Around mid-day on Thursday, prices in the area averaged about $2.11 per gallon. Statewide, the average is $2.34. Nationally, we're talking an average of $2.42, according to AAA.

Gas at Charlotte stations cost an average of $2.11 per gallon, and can be found at the Shell located at 9726 Monroe Road or Murphy USA located at 2010 Galleria Boulevard. If you're headed south of Charlotte, the lowest prices average dips to $1.99 per gallon in Rock Hill, S.C.

All of that ties into what AAA is predicting to be quite the busy holiday travel season, perhaps even record breaking. From Dec. 23-Jan. 1, the travel safety organization says 107.3 million folks will hit the road, as it were, via planes trains and automobiles. That would be the highest year-end travel volume on record — and a 3.1 increase from a year ago.

"Higher prices at the gas pumps are not preventing Carolinians from getting behind the wheel to visit with family and friends," said Dave Parsons, president and CEO of AAA Carolinas, in a statement.

AAA predicts that 4.5 million Carolinians will travel by car, planes and trains this holiday season, breaking a record and representing a more than 3 percent increase over last year's travel numbers. Most of those travelers in North Carolina and South Carolina will be driving.
