Crash Shuts Down I-85, Involves Police Vehicle And 18-Wheeler

It will be closed until at least 1 p.m. State troopers advise people to use I-485 to U.S. 29 as an alternate route.

CHARLOTTE, NC β€” A serious crash shut down I-85 in Charlotte at exit 45 southbound at W.T. Harris Boulevard. According to WSOC, an 18-wheeler hit a police cruiser and jack-knifed.

Two officers were taken to the hospital, according to WCCB.

The crash happened shortly before 4 a.m. and the road is expected to be closed until at least 1 p.m.

North Carolina DOT advises: Please avoid I-85 South near exit 45 this morning. Use I-485 to U.S. 29 as an alternate route.

CMPD issued a bulletin stating the road will be closed for an "extended period of time" while officials investigate a "serious accident."
