Crime Stoppers Helped Solved Nearly 200 Crimes In 2018: CMPD

Tips coming in to Charlotte's Crime Stoppers phone line have led to solving 198 crimes and the seizure of 48 guns, says CMPD.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Tips coming in from the Charlotte community helped police solve nearly 200 crimes in 2018, including a felony hit-and-run, armed robberies and a homicide case, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

CMPD’s Crime Stoppers tip phone line pays for tips that lead to arrests. So far this year, Crime Stoppers has paid $29,000 to tipsters, down from $36,000 in payouts in 2017.

In 2018, CMPD’s school tipline, Campus Crime Stoppers, has paid out about $1,000 for tips, Detective Brandon Miller said.

As of Dec. 3, Charlotte’s Crime Stoppers tip line has received 2,458 tips, that have led to 198 arrests, seized 48 guns and removed about $70,000 worth of drugs off the street, police said.
