Here are the top five stories today in Charlotte:
- Queens University of Charlotte and Atrium Health are working together in effort to enhance student health services. Starting in August 2022, Atrium Health will manage the university's student health clinic and associated health services. According to WCCB Charlotte, the health center will "offer point-of-care testing, acute care management, virtual care and medication dispensing with Atrium Health clinical employees. The behavioral health center will offer enhanced services which include a 24/7 crisis hotline and virtual care." (WCCB Charlotte)
- Carolina Harbor Waterpark will participate in the World's Largest Swimming Lesson on June 23. Located at Carowinds, it will, according to WCCB Charlotte, "be among the hundreds of water parks, aquatic centers, and swim schools holding simultaneous water-safety instruction for the 13th annual event." The event is will take place in Surf Club Harbor, which is a huge wave pool, at Carolina Harbor Waterpark. (WCCB Charlotte)
- Charlotte-based rapper DaBaby will be in concert and host a free carnival this weekend! He will perform at the QC Sound Stage on Saturday. A free carnival is also planned on the same day in the venue's parking lot. DaBaby said that the carnival was added to Saturday's schedule to "give children something to do now that they're off from school for summer break." Regarding this event, he said, "You can expect an unforgettable experience." (WCNC.com)
- A litter of pit bulls were rescued from an overcrowded animal shelter and given a new purpose in life through Operation Sidekick, an organization based in Charlotte. Sara Ondrako, owner and founder of this nonprofit, rescued the mother and her babies just weeks before they were set to be euthanized. The American Pitbull Foundation works hard to achieve their mission which, according to WCNC, includes, "Promoting responsible dog ownership, outreach, advocacy and education." (WCNC.com)
- The Charlotte Symphony will return to Truist Field, home of the Charlotte Knights, to give a salute to America! People can attend "Celebrate America" to enjoy memorable anthems and marches that will end in a spectacular fireworks finale! Resident Conductor Christopher James Lees will conduct the orchestra in works by John Williams, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington and more! (WCCB Charlotte)
