Here are the top three stories in Charlotte today:
- A group of fathers are becoming well-known on Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools campuses. Ever since the school shooting in Texas, they have been on a mission to provide a sense of calm and security for their communities. Dion Jones, program director for Be There Dad, thinks that showing up for your children is important for all dads to do and that is what the fathers of this nonprofit do — working hard to engage dads across nearly 20 CMS schools. - There was a motorcycle accident on I-485 in west Charlotte on Saturday. One person was killed. The accident happened in the outer loop of Interstate 485. (WBTV)
- The City of Charlotte is has now become a Certified Welcoming place. Welcoming America, a national nonprofit organization that aims to build a nation of neighbors by fostering welcoming communities, runs the Certified Welcoming program. According to Leslie Blaser, this program is "a formal designation for cities and counties that have created policies and programs that reflect their values and commitment to immigrant inclusion."
