UPDATE: Mother Comes Forward To Claim Abandoned Infant Girl
A baby girl was found abandoned Friday morning and police are attempting to identify her.

UPDATE: The mother of the baby reported abandoned Friday morning has come forward, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. The infant girl remains in the custody of Department of Social Services while authorities investigate.
CHARLOTTE, NC -- An infant girl was found abandoned in the 1600 block of Remount Road Friday morning, prompting authorities to ask the community for help in identifying her.
According to police, a man called 911 around 7 a.m. June 2 to report that he had met a woman with the baby the night before around 9 p.m. while walking through Lakewood Manor complex on Watson Drive. The woman asked the man to watch the baby, but never returned, he told police.

The woman, who CMPD says could be the baby’s mother, is described as a young, dark skinned African-American female, and was last seen wearing shorts and a tank top.

The infant is believed to be about six to eight months old, CMPD said.
