CHARLOTTE, NC -- An employee at Charlotte-Douglas International was sent to the hospital Wednesday after the tug they were driving was hit by an arriving American Eagle flight taxing to the airport terminal. The accident caused flight delays, according to airport officials.
American Eagle flight #5233, which originated in Charleston, W.Va., “made contact” with the airport vehicle at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport while it was taxing to the airport gate, American Airlines said in a statement Sept. 13.

“The fire department, along with medical personnel, responded immediately, and the tug driver was transported to the hospital in stable condition,” the airline said.
An investigation into the accident, however, temporarily shut down all activity on the north side of Terminal E, prompting flight delays. “Customers should expect some residual flight delays for regional flights departing and arriving Charlotte,” the airline said.
