Driver Killed After Hitting Tree In Early Morning Crash

CHARLOTTE, NC — A driver is dead after the vehicle they were driving ran off a northeast Charlotte roadway, went airborne and struck a tree. Charlotte police say speed, alcohol, as well as the driver not wearing a seatbelt, were contributing factors in the wreck.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. May 4 in the 100 block of Eastway Drive. The accident victim, who has not been identified by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim’s family has been notified, according to CMPD.

The police department’s major crash investigation unit is investigating the accident and asks anyone who has information about this case contact CMPD officer C.G. Jamieson at 704-432-2169.
