Duct Tape Used To Restrain Unruly Charlotte-Bound Passenger

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A 36-year-old female passenger on an American Airlines flight headed to Charlotte was arrested as soon as the plane arrived at the gate Wednesday, charged for biting and assaulting three flight attendants after she ran toward the cockpit as the plane was coming in for a landing, according to reports.

Charlene Sarieann Harriott was arrested Jan. 31 and charged by the FBI with three counts of assault and battery, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident unfolded as the plane arriving from Dallas/ Fort Worth landed at Charlotte Douglas International, according to WBTV. Harriott "reportedly got out of her seat near the back of the plane and ran towards the front of the plane,” towards the cockpit, the station said, citing details from a federal report.

Harriott was eventually restrained with zip ties and duct tape in the front section of the plane and arrested by Charlotte police when the plane landed, WBTV said. Three flight attendants were injured during the melee when Harriott reportedly bit, hit and kicked them, and they sought medical treatment at the airline’s medical clinic at the airport.

Harriott is being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail, and will remain there until her detention hearing next week, The Charlotte Observer reported.
