Fire Danger Increases In North Carolina: NWS

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Today's sunny and clear skies may be a welcome sight after torrential storms earlier in the week, but with them the state now faces additional threats, according to forecasters. Due to windy conditions and low humidity, North Carolina now faces an increased fire danger risk Wednesday, according to National Weather Service.

“Strong, breezy southwesterly winds with gusts of 25 to 35 mph, combined with relative humidity levels dipping as low as 25 to 30 percent will create elevated fire danger conditions today across areas of the Piedmont and western North Carolina,” NWS said Wednesday.

Thursday’s near copycat conditions of low humidities and strong winds also means the piedmont of faces a possible wildfire danger April 18, NWS added.

While the fire risk may be up, there will be plenty of sunshine and pleasant temperatures in the days ahead. The chance of rain doesn’t return to the forecast until early next week.
