🌱 Fire Displaces Six People + Corral May Miss Panthers Season

Here are the top five stories today in Charlotte:
- Kevin Concepcion, a local senior and wide receiver for Chambers High School, has been prioritized by NC State for over a year, according to The Wolfpacker. "NC State's efforts paid off with a verbal commitment Saturday from the exciting play-maker," according to the online publication. (TheWolfpacker)
- A lumber company's efforts to add storage sheds is making neighbors in north Charlotte upset because this process is taking away green space on the land next to them. According to CBS17, "Carter Lumber has filed a petition to rezone the land to put in four lumber storage sheds near its lumberyard off Old Statesville Road. The Olivers are concerned about where the sheds are going." (CBS17.com)
- According to ESPN, "Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Matt Corral likely will miss the 2022-23 season with what coach Matt Rhule called a "significant" Lisfranc ligament tear. Corral suffered the left foot injury in the Friday night preseason loss at New England. A 2016 study in the American Journal of Sports Medicine determined NFL players with Lisfranc injuries treated without surgery missed an average of 6.2 months recovering and those who underwent surgery missed an average of 11.6 months." - Firefighters were able to rescue the family cat from a house fire in west Charlotte that displaced six people. According to WCNC, "Charlotte Fire said they responded to a home on Revolution Park Drive near West Boulevard around 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. About 30 firefighters got the blaze under control in eight minutes." (WCNC.com)
- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said that "a woman was critically wounded in an exchange of gunfire with police in Charlotte on Friday afternoon." According to Spectrum News, "Officers rendered aid to the woman, who was taken to a hospital with what authorities said were life-threatening injuries...When officers called out to the woman, she opened fire, hitting one officer in the chest. ... An officer returned fire and struck the woman." (Spectrum News)
