Fortune 500: These North Carolina Companies Make 2020 List

NORTH CAROLINA — Fortune Magazine has released its annual list of the 500 top companies in America, and 13 of those companies are based in North Carolina.

Fortune ranks companies by total annual revenue and, for the eighth consecutive year, Walmart topped the 2020 list, followed by Amazon and Exxon Mobil. Apple and CVS Health ranked No. 4 and No. 5, rounding out the top five spots on the list.

To put the rankings in context, the 500 companies on the 2020 list make up two-thirds of the total U.S. gross domestic product.

The 500 companies employ 29.2 million people worldwide.

Here are the companies in North Carolina that made the Fortune 500 list:

• No. 44 — Lowe's, $72.1 billion revenue
• No. 92 — Honeywell International, $36.7 billion revenue
• No. 123 — Duke Energy, $24.6 billion revenue
• No. 139 — Nucor, $22.5 billion revenue
• No. 217 — Truist Financial, $14.6 billion revenue
• No. 274 — Laboratory Corp. of America, $11.5 billion revenue
• No. 290 — IQVIA Holdings, $11 billion revenue
• No. 301 — Sonic Automotive, $10.4 billion revenue
• No. 330 — Advance Auto Parts, $9.7 billion revenue
• No. 381 — CommScope Holding, $8.3 billion revenue
• No. 436 — Hanesbrands, $6.9 billion revenue
• No. 457 — Brighthouse Financial, $6.5 billion revenue
