Here are the top four stories today in Charlotte:
- Shop local as you celebrate the holiday season this year. "Taking a farm-to-fork approach to preparing holiday meals can have several benefits. Locally grown produce is fresher, more ripe and has more nutritional value than foods transported across the country, or even the world, before making their way to a grocery store shelf near you. Not only are locally sourced food items better for you, they also look and taste better by maintaining more of their natural color, vibrancy and aroma – helping to bring your holiday recipes to life with even more flavor," Charlotte Magazine reports. (Charlotte Magazine)
- There was a fight during a football game at Olympic High School that resulted in two people being arrested on Friday night. "According to the district, approximately 15 people were involved in the fight, which happened during a football game against South Meck around 9:15 p.m. Officials said the fight began at the bottom of the home-side bleachers and spilled out onto the track surrounding the football field. School resource officers and security personnel were on scene. ... CMS said one of the people arrested was a juvenile," WBTV reports. (WBTV)
- Babies are expensive and the prices to properly care for and raise a baby well keep climbing higher with just the first year exceeding $15,000 (according to Baby Center)! But if you are in the Charlotte area, you may want to hear about some local groups in town who are trying to help! They gathered on Saturday "to help take the pressure off families through a community baby shower. ... Dozens of moms were part of the 2nd annual Community Baby Shower. It’s hosted by Christ Embassy Charlotte and the Tuckasegee Recreation Center to support moms in need," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
- Currently there are 13 members of the Charlotte community who are "training to become professional ballroom dancers for just one night. It’s all to raise money to combat breast cancer. Dancing with the Stars Charlotte will hold its 7th annual show in February. Each “star” has the goal of raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for two local charities helping those battling breast cancer," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
