Charlotte Election Results: Lyles Voted New Mayor

Voters went to the polls Nov. 7 to choose mayors and local commissioners in Mecklenburg County. Here's the result of all the races.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- On Election Day 2017, voters went to the polls to cast their ballot for a host of municipal leaders, from mayors to commissioners. The results are in and voting has ushered in new leadership in some corners of Mecklenburg County including new Charlotte mayor Vi Lyles.

Charlotte's mayoral race was one of many that caught national attention in an election that saw Democrats sweep state races across the country. β€œYou’ve proven that a woman whose father didn’t graduate from high school can become this city’s first female African-American mayor," Lyles said in her victory speech to supporters, according to The Charlotte Observer.

Here’s a rundown of all the winners from Nov. 7, 2017 election in Mecklenburg County. The winner of each race is in bold, alongside the percentage of the ballot, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections:
