Gun Owners, Lock Them Up: CMPD

Almost 400 guns have been stolen out of vehicles in the Charlotte area already this year.

CHARLOTTE, NC – Listen up gun owners, the police have a simple request of you: lock them up.

Almost 400 guns have been reported stolen from cars in the Charlotte metro area this year along, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Wednesday.

The data from recent years is even more staggering. Since 2014, at least 1,700 guns have been reported stolen from vehicles in the metro region.

To help curb handgun thefts, CMPD is distributing 100 vehicle gun safes to community members who legally own a gun.

Hyatt Gun Shop is also offering area residents vehicle gun safes at cost, for $23, CMPD said.
