Harris Teeter, Whole Foods: Thanksgiving Grocery Store Hours

Despite the days of preparation and assigning different family members to bring their special dishes to the Thanksgiving feast, it's inevitable that someone will still have to race to the store for last-minute purchases of dinner rolls, whipped cream, potatoes, wine or stuffing mix. Which grocery stores will be open on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 23, and how about Black Friday, if you need to re-supply to feed a house full of visitors?

Some food stores in the region — Harris Teeter, Food Lion, and Whole Foods — are open on Thanksgiving, but some close early, so check on individual stores for their hours. The day after, most return to normal operating hours. Other chains, including ALDI and Costco, are closed for the holiday. (See full list below.)

To help you know your go-to stores over the upcoming holiday, we have open and closed hours for stores, plus links to their websites. Here's a list of Thanksgiving and Black Friday hours for North Carolina grocery chains, taken from their websites and emails to Patch. Some stores may vary.

Thanksgiving Store Hours

• Harris Teeter: Open Thanksgiving Day from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Publix: All stores and pharmacies will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23; regular hours resume on Friday, Nov. 24.
• Kroger: Many stores are open 24 hours, while others will be open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Whole Foods: Hours: 7 am-3 pm on Thanksgiving.
• Food Lion: Most stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (depending on the store).
• Trader Joes: All stores closed on Thanksgiving.
• Fresh Market: Open 8 a.m.-9 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
• ALDI: All stores are closed on Thanksgiving.
• Costco: All stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
• Sam's Club: All stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day.
• Walmart: Stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day and will unveil Black Friday deals at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23.
• Target: Stores open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving and close at midnight; stores re-open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.
