Heavy Rain Could Lead To Regional Flooding, NWS Warns

Rain is expected throughout the greater Charlotte-metro region all day Tuesday. Here's where forecasters say flooding could be possible.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Rain clouds are expected to hover over the greater Charlotte-metro and Lake Norman regions all day Tuesday, which could lead to isolated flooding in some parts of the piedmont of North Carolina, according to national forecasters.

“Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected at times through early this evening, possibly leading to isolated flooding. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible mainly along and south of I-85 this afternoon into the early evening,” the National Weather Service said Tuesday in a hazardous weather outlook bulletin.

Tuesday evening, there’s an 80 percent chance the rain will continue as wind gusts up to 24 miles per hour could be felt in the area, NWS said. While wind gusts will continue through Wednesday, the rain is expected to move out, not expected to return to the forecast until Friday evening.
