- Heather Malo, a local woman, won the $388,927 jackpot in NC lottery! She "had an exciting Saturday morning after her $1 Cash 5 ticket turned into a $388,927 win, the North Carolina Lottery announced. After she realized she hit the jackpot, she said she hugged and kissed her husband. Malo bought her Quick Pick ticket for last Friday’s drawing using Online Play on the lottery’s website, her preferred way to play. She arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to collect her prize and ... took home $276,177," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
- Monkeypox has arrived in Stanly County with its first confirmed case. "The Stanly County Health Department is working to identify close contacts to the individual while protecting the individual’s privacy. The North Carolina Department of Health reported the first case of monkeypox in North Carolina in June," WBTV reports. (WBTV)
- "Over 4,000 CMS students will be housing insecure this school year, that's thousands of students living with other family members, in a hotel or in a car. To tackle the problem, a local organization called Charlotte Family Housing is looking to empower working families experiencing homelessness. Charlotte Family Housing is a shelter-to-housing program, the organization mainly works with homeless CMS families," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
- Read this story for details on a $7.9 Million Mediterranean home that is the most expensive in Charlotte. It is owned by Michael Kahn who is a businessman and owner of the professional ice hockey team the Charlotte Checkers. The home "hit the market Wednesday for $7.9 million, making it the most expensive home on the Charlotte market. Sitting on more than 5.4 acres in the gated community of Greenwood, the residence has 12,718 square feet of living space with eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms," Mansion Global reports. - Matt Wohlfarth, owner of Dilworth Neighborhood Grille, posted a sign outside his business six months ago saying, “free party for the road crew if finished by 9/1/22". However, the crew did not finish their work. "The ongoing storm drainage improvement project along East Morehead Street costs taxpayers an estimated $41.5 million. The latest update has pushed back its completion date to early 2023. ... The frustration isn’t just for business owners but for everyone, including pedestrians who are trying to cross the street without a crosswalk," WGHP FOX8 Greensboro reports. (WGHP FOX8 Greensboro)
- "The 100th anniversary of N.C. A&T playing N.C. Central in football is getting special treatment this weekend. Today’s season opener, the Aggie-Eagle Classic, is being hosted by the Charlotte Sports Foundation as the Duke's Mayo Classic in Bank of America Stadium, home to the NFL's Carolina Panthers and Major League Soccer's Charlotte FC," according to Greensboro News & Record. - "Be There Dad" is a Charlotte-based nonprofit that is working hard to help Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools launch an initiative that will bring more male volunteers and mentors to all of its campuses this school year. "Usher has worked with CMS for 10 years to establish "Be There Dad" groups on campuses. In the past, the groups have coordinated field days, service days, grounds clean-ups and tutoring sessions," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
