ICYMI: Thanksgiving 2017: What's Open, Closed in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Thanksgiving Day is considered a federal holiday, which means government offices, schools and some businesses will take a break for the holiday.

Charlotte city and Mecklenburg County government offices will be closed for Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24.

Here are the openings and closings to be aware of this Thanksgiving holiday:

U.S. Post Office: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23

State Offices: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24

Charlotte City Offices: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24

Mecklenburg County Offices: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24

Schools and Administrative Offices: Closed

Libraries: All Charlotte Mecklenburg Library branches will close early at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, and all day Nov. 23 for Thanksgiving. Libraries will be open Friday, Nov. 24.

Department of Social Services: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24. The Department of Social Services hotlines operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect. To report abuse of seniors or the disabled, call 704-336-CARE (2273). To report abuse, neglect or human trafficking of children, call 980-31-HELPS (43577).

Tax Office: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24

Elections Office: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24

Register of Deeds Office: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24

Land Use and Environmental Services Agency: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24

Health Department: Closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24, 2017.

Trash and Recycling: Charlotte Solid Waste services will not collect on Thursday, Nov. 23 and will operate on a one-day delay. Solid Waste Administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24. All Solid Waste Drop Off Centers will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and open on Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25.

Park and Recreation: administrative offices and all facilities including Recreation and Senior Centers, Nature Centers, the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center, Marion Diehl Pool and Ray’s Splash Planet will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24.

Nature Centers: Open on a normal schedule on Friday, Nov. 24. Grayson SkatePark will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017.

CharMeck 311: open and available to the public Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
