Investigation Underway After Man Killed By Light Rail Train
Charlotte police have launched a probe into the death of a man struck by a northbound light rail train Sunday evening.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police have launched a probe into the death of a man struck by a northbound light rail train Sunday evening after he walked past crossing bars and attempted to cross the track.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. July 7 at the intersection of North Tryon Street and University Pointe Boulevard.
“The pedestrian was transported to Atrium Health / Carolina’s Medical Center by MEDIC where he succumbed from his injuries,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a statement. He was identified as 27-year-old Marty Lee Parrott III.

No one on the train was injured, police said.
According to CMPD, an initial investigation revealed that the crossing bars, warning lights and audible warning signals were all working properly at the time of the incident.

CMPD said that anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the major crash investigation Unit at 704-432-2169.
