Investigation Underway After Man Shot, Killed Inside Ambulance

A man receiving treatment inside an ambulance was shot and killed by a friend he asked to see inside the vehicle, according to reports.

CHARLOTTE, NC —A police investigation is underway after a man receiving medical treatment inside an ambulance at a south Charlotte hotel was shot and killed by a friend he asked to see inside the vehicle, according to reports.

The predawn incident occurred at the Day’s Inn located at 118 E. Woodlawn Road in Charlotte shortly before 4 a.m., according to a report from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

According to the police report, officers responded to an emergency call placed by a security guard about a disturbance at the hotel.

“MEDIC was also dispatched to the scene to treat one of the individuals involved in the disturbance,” CMPD said. “While MEDIC personnel were treating the victim in their ambulance, the suspect shot the victim.”

No paramedics were injured in the shooting, and the suspect was immediately taken into custody, police said.

WSOC reported that the victim who was being treated inside the ambulance had told paramedics he was having trouble breathing. “While he was in the ambulance, he asked for his friend to come into the ambulance with him,” the station reported.

However, paramedics told the suspect he was not allowed inside the vehicle. When they left the door to the vehicle, the suspect “came back and shot the patient several times, killing him,” WSOC said.

CMPD has not yet released the names of the victim or the suspect. This story will be updated when more information is available.

Police are canvassing the area in a search for any additional witnesses. CMPD said that anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
