Investigation Underway After Woman Killed By Cargo Train

The woman was pronounced dead after she was struck by the CSX cargo train Sunday afternoon in southeast Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police have launched an investigation after a 38-year-old woman was struck and killed by a CSX cargo train in southeast Charlotte Sunday afternoon.

According to a report by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Lakisha Rasheka McHam was struck by a 5,800-foot long CSX train 5282 as it traveled near the 3000 block of Dunn Avenue near the Bascom Street crossing around 2:30 p.m. Sept. 29.

“CSX cargo train personnel called 911 to report their train traveling northbound had struck a pedestrian/trespasser on the tracks,” CMPD said.

“ After a brief search of the tracks officers located an unresponsive black female on the tracks under the train along the 3000 block of Dunn Avenue,” CMPD said.

McHam was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

CMPD said the incident is under investigation by its major crash investigation unit and ask that any person who witnessed the incident or has information about the case call Detective Oberer at 704- 432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
