Good morning, everybody! I'm back with your new edition of the Charlotte Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in the community today.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny and not as hot. High: 83 Low: 64.
Here are the top seven stories today in Charlotte:

Shoppers can pump gas during the grand opening and redeem Harris Teeter fuel points at the fuel pump of any Harris Teeter Fuel Center or BP station. (WCCB Charlotte)
- As school ends for summer vacation to start, some families are worried about how to feed their children. - A new legislation could help people facing "more than a dozen different unbearable medical conditions" for which their doctor recommends a cannabis treatment because the health benefits of smoking or consuming cannabis outweigh the risks. - Anna Kooiman, broadcast journalist, is returning to Charlotte to take a job that's the perfect fit. She left WCCB Charlotte in 2010 for New York to host Fox News' weekend show. Now that she's returned home, she will host a lifestyle show for women titled, "Your Day with Anna Kooiman," on the Bahakel Communications station. Kooiman, a graduate of Myers Park High School and UNC-Wilmington, says she'll look to continue empowering women with her new show. She calls this move back to Charlotte "a dream come true. - Charlotte Douglas International Airport is working with an on-demand service to help blind and low-vision travelers navigate the concourses and terminals within. It is using Aira to offer "on-demand visual interpreters to ensure passengers who need help getting to their flights know where to go." Visually impaired passengers who use this app will have the "eyes" of an agent who will view the environment around the traveler through the smartphone's camera to tell the person what's going on and provide directions on where to go. Are you a Charlotte resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
