The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charlotte.
Good morning, everybody! I'm back with your fresh edition of the Charlotte Daily. Let's get this weekend started off right, with a quick dive into everything you need to know about what's going on these days in town.
First, today's weather:
Sunny, breezy and not as hot. High: 89 Low: 62.
Here are the top five stories in Charlotte today:
- Juneteenth events happening across Charlotte this weekend will most likely draw big crowds. Therefore, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department decided to close some roads this weekend in order to prepare and keep people safe. Here are a few places that will be closed: Commonwealth Avenue will be closed from The Plaza to Pecan Street and Thomas Avenue will be closed from Commonwealth Avenue to the entrance of the public parking lot on Thomas Avenue. (WCNC.com)
- Earlier this year, Charlotte City Councilman Braxton Winston was accused of assault. After an in-depth review of the evidence obtained from an investigation, the charge of assault was dismissed against Winston because it was decided that no evidence supported the claim that he committed that offense against a female. (WBTV)
- Mary J. Blige, known as the Queen of Hip Hop Soul, is bringing her Good Morning Gorgeous Tour to Charlotte's Spectrum Center on Sept. 21! Tickets to see Mary J. Blige were went on sale Friday. Blige will perform in 23 cities and will be joined by special guest artists Ella Mai and Queen Naija. (WCCB Charlotte)
- Four of North Carolina's largest health care systems sent sensitive patient information to Facebook. This action implicated Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, Duke University Hospital, Novant Health and WakeMed. According to WCNC, "Potential information Facebook could have received includes patients' health conditions, allergies and sexual orientations."(WCNC.com)
- According to WCNC, over 200 flights were canceled or delayed out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport Thursday and Friday, resulting in long lines and overcrowded concourses. Some people spent five hours being on hold by customer service as they tried to schedule a new flight. The cause of the widespread cancellations is not known but is said to not be weather-related.
