Labor Day 2018: What's Open, Closed in Mecklenburg County

Labor Day 2018: Schools and government offices will be impacted by the holiday weekend. Here's a list of closings.

CHARLOTTE, NC – Labor Day 2018 will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 3, marking the unofficial end of summer.

While most schools, banks and government offices will be closed in observance of the holiday, many businesses and some services will be operational as usual.

Here are the openings/closings to be aware of on Monday, Sept. 3:

City/Town Offices: closed

Mecklenburg County Government Offices and Agencies: closed

  • This includes all units of the Department of Social Services, the Tax Office, Elections Office, the Register of Deeds Office, and the Land Use and Environmental Services Agency (LUESA) Office.
  • The Department of Social Services Care Line (704-336-CARE or 704-336-2273) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect of children, the elderly or disabled adults. To report abuse, neglect or human trafficking of children, call 980-314-3577.
  • CharMeck 311 is open and available to the public Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Mecklenburg County Health Department: closed

Federal Government Offices: closed

North Carolina State Government Offices: closed

North Carolina Court system: closed

Schools and Administrative Offices: closed

U.S. Post Office: Closed

Banks: Closed

Trash Collection:

  • The City of Charlotte will collect trash on a normal schedule.
  • Solid Waste administrative offices and all Solid Waste Facilities will be closed on Labor Day, except the new Compost Central Disposal and Recycling Center at 140 Valleydale Road. It will be open from 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

Main Library and branches: closed

Park and Recreation:

  • Administrative offices, recreation and senior centers will be closed Sept. 3.
  • Recreation and Senior Centers will also be closed.
  • Nature Centers will be open.
  • All Mecklenburg County Aquatic facilities will operate on holiday schedules. (Please check with the facility for specific hours). Ray’s Splash Planet is still closed for renovations.
