Loaded Gun Found In Student’s Backpack At West Charlotte High School
A Charlotte high school student was arrested Tuesday after a loaded handgun was found in their backpack, according to a report.
CHARLOTTE, NC -- A student at Harding University High School in West Charlotte was arrested Tuesday after a loaded gun was found in their backpack, according to reports.
The weapon was discovered after school administrators were alerted, The Charlotte Observer reported. According to the newspaper, the school’s principal, Eric Ward, sent a message to parents saying, “The administrative team and school resource officers quickly responded to the report, and as a result, a weapon was discovered.”

The student reportedly told school they got the gun “from the neighborhood,” and that they brought it to school for “protection,” the newspaper said.
