🌱 Local Artist's Door Charms Help Families In Need + Woman Kidnapped

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charlotte.

Hey, friends. It's Wednesday in Charlotte and I'm back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening locally. Because community information is power!

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and very warm. High: 92 Low: 71.

Here are the top five stories in Charlotte today:

  1. Police need the public's help in locating a vehicle involved in a kidnapping that happened Monday on Griffith Street in south Charlotte. Someone called the officers around 6:30 p.m. on Monday because they saw a woman being kidnapped by a man who stepped out of a vehicle that had pulled up next to the woman. It was reported that he "dragged the woman inside" despite the woman trying to fight him off and screaming for help. (WBTV)
  2. A 4-year college degree may no longer be necessary for everyone who wants a career in media, thanks to CSB Media Art Center's alternative education. Students can complete this program in only four months. It is an audio, video and digital media production school located in Charlotte NC. Students who graduate from this program will be prepared to start working in the media industry. (WCNC.com)
  3. Michael Todd Hill, a 54-year-old native North Carolina resident, was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced Friday for killing 23-year-old Keonna Graham who was reported missing on July 20, 2020. She was later found dead in a hotel, suffering from a gunshot wound. Hill confessed to killing Graham. (WCNC.com)
  4. Police are investigating a social media threat made against a local elementary school over the weekend. Law enforcement was on the campus of Clear Creek Elementary on Tuesday because of the threat. No suspect has been identified at this time. (WBTV)
  5. You may notice "door charms" on the doors while you're driving around Charlotte. These charms may be in the shape of a heart or a seasonal piece such as a watermelon for summer. But it's more than pretty decoration — there is a special meaning behind these door charms created by local artist Heather Opal. She creates this special collection of paintings and donates the proceeds to help a family in need. She calls it the Heart Fund. (Spectrum News)
