Here are the top five stories today in Charlotte:
- The Charlotte Hornets say All-Star point guard LaMelo Ball had an MRI on Tuesday on his injured left ankle. Ball left Monday night’s game with what the team called a left ankle sprain after his foot was stepped on by Washington’s Anthony Gill as he was driving toward the basket. Ball collapsed to the floor and remained there for several minutes before getting up, limping to the foul line and shooting two free throws. He then exited the game and headed to the locker room. Hornets head coach Steve Clifford said after practice that Ball and injured center Mason Plumlee (foot) will not travel with the team to Philadelphia for tonight’s preseason finale," WNYT News Channel 13 reports. - Would you like to help people in need? If so, consider participating in the 704 Coat Drive! "The 704 Coat Drive is presented by Charlotte Mechanical and benefits the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte. The annual two-month campaign recruits fellow Charlotte organizations to place coat donation barrels at their businesses/offices. The 12th annual drive in 2022, runs through Nov. 11. Charlotteans are encouraged to drop off coats at specially marked barrels or make monetary donations online. All coats collected will be distributed to the Salvation Army and it will distribute to those in need," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
- A songbird that was "trapped in a structural pipe standing vertically as part of a newly constructed home patio" of a local family's home, was rescued by the North Carolina-based Carolina Waterfowl Rescue. This story was shared on Facebook," CBS17 reports. (CBS17.com)
- The Charlotte airport partially reopened its upper-level roadway on Tuesday. It’s been closed since the end of September for construction, causing massive delays and backups. While the initial phase of the project is complete, airport officials are encouraging customers to continue to arrive early and expect periodic delays on the roadways, WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
- "A Charlotte native is a part of a campaign with Nike that highlights HBCUs like North Carolina A&T. Nike released four styles of sneakers to highlight HBCUs through its YardRunners 2.0 campaign, created to celebrate the rich heritage, history and contributions of HBCUs and their alums on the global culture. N.C. A&T multimedia journalism student, Arial Robinson, was chosen as one of the creative directors for this project," CBS17 reports. (CBS17.com)
