The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charlotte.
Hello again, Charlotte! It's me, Alexis Goring, your host of the Charlotte Daily. Let's get this Friday started off right, with a quick guide to everything you need to know about what's happening these days in town.
First, today's weather:
A t-storm late in the p.m.. High: 95 Low: 76.
Here are the top five stories today in Charlotte:
- Le Dîner en Blanc, partnering with WCNC, will return to Charlotte for its 4th edition on October 8! According to WCNC, "Charlotte's hosts are proud to have WCNC-TV as its official partner for this year's event. As always, the venue will remain secret until the last minute. WCNC-TV will host several give-a-ways, including special event invitations and a silent auction to benefit the Charlotte Art League – a nonprofit visual arts organization offering a unique mix of classes, community outreach programs and a public gallery." (WCNC.com)
- Brianna Anthony, a local mom, filed a lawsuit against baby formula producer Abbott. She claims that the company misleads parents into thinking its Similac baby formula is safe. According to WCNC, "Anthony claims in her suit she gave birth to her daughter Reign in June 2021 at only 23 weeks. Anthony said Reign was relatively healthy for a baby born so prematurely but still required a feeding tube and breathing machine to help. Eventually, a doctor reportedly told Anthony they would be switching Reign over to Similac, but Anthony said she protested the idea because of her own research. However, she said the doctor went ahead and used Similac. The lawsuit states Reign eventually became sick and passed away." (WCNC.com)
- Scott Brooks, a beloved NoDa sandwich shop owner, was robbed and murdered. According to WSOC-TV, "Terry Conner and Steven Staples are facing charges in the death of Scott Brooks outside Brooks' Sandwich House in NoDa in December 2019. The Brooks family was told to expect trial in three to five years due to backlogs in the court system." (WSOC-TV)
- Passengers on board a Frontier Airlines from Charlotte to Philadelphia experienced a dense yet "refreshing" mist on July 27. According to Fox 46 Charlotte, "video shared to Twitter by Michael Wilder shows the fog billowing down from the cabin's air conditions. Wilder told Storyful that passengers were not alarmed by the event and that the "weird" misty mist "was kind of refreshing and calming." (Fox 46 Charlotte)
- As the heat becomes more intense in North Carolina, several cooling stations are set to open within Mecklenburg County. According to Spectrum News, the county is working "in partnership with Charlotte Mecklenburg Emergency Management and various homeless service providers, is working to help residents beat the heat as summer temperatures continue to rise."
