Here are the top five stories in Charlotte today:

  1. "When Emma Kenney left work to meet Mike Hanson for dinner at the Goodyear House in Charlotte's NoDa neighborhood in October, she had a feeling something was up. He told her what he'd be wearing, which was out of character for him. She figured a proposal might be coming. What she did not expect, though, was for the engagement to be paired with a custom painting celebrating the restaurant that meant so much to the couple. Better yet, now they are a part of the painting," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
  2. "Roslyn Singleton, a Charlotte woman whose battle with brain cancer stole the hearts of millions around the country, died on Tuesday, her husband Ray Singleton confirmed in an Instagram post. Singleton caught the attention of millions when Ray posted a viral video a few years ago singing to Ros, a two-time cancer survivor. From there the couple began gaining an online, eventually appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and America's Got Talent," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
  3. "The United States Post Office is looking for volunteers to answer letters to Santa. Volunteers will look through letters children have written to Santa. When volunteers find a letter that interests them, they’ll buy a gift for the writer and send it off anonymously. The program has existed for more 100 years," WCCB Charlotte reports. (WCCB Charlotte)
  4. "More than two dozen California law enforcement recruits are hurt after a wrong-way driver hit them while they were training. Several are in critical condition. The recruits were a mile into their early morning run when investigators say a 22-year-old man drove into the oncoming lanes and plowed into the cadets. The driver was not drunk at the time of the crash," WCCB Charlotte reports. (WCCB Charlotte)
  5. "As the war in Ukraine continues, people in Charlotte are doing what they can to help. A group of philanthropists called Rise to Raise, along with their partner and nonprofit, the United Indian Community Forum, came together this past April to support the people of Ukraine. Just recently, they were associated with a fundraiser in August called Ghazal-aur-Kalaam. Organized by Dr. Harmohan Singh, Dr. Jasleen Gill and Anitha Gowtam, the event raised $50,000. From this, $25,000 was donated to the Charlotte chapter of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America last week,"Spectrum News reports. (Spectrum News)
