Here are the top five stories today in Charlotte:
- "Glenisha Thomas hoped to provide for those in need even as she experienced one of her lowest points with homelessness. From there, the idea of Pretty Ponytails grew. Since 2019, she’s worked to provide hair care kits to underserved girls worldwide, reaching from Charlotte to Ghana and all receiving a boost of confidence and self-esteem. And it doesn’t just stop at hair. Pretty Ponytails also hosted a day of pampering for dozens of girls last month and now they’re gathering even more donations for the holidays," WCNC reports. - "319 Golf Society, a club committed to breaking down gender, race and income barriers among a new generation of golf is set to launch in Charlotte, North Carolina. The club's mission is to build a network of members who belong to top private golf courses, who desire to experience the world's most prestigious golf clubs while simultaneously supporting a scholarship program that levels the playing field among young golfers," Victoria Advocate reports. (Victoria Advocate)
- "Queen City Nerve readers have cast their votes for the Best In The Nest for 2022. From the tastiest eateries to the best parks in Charlotte, readers of the city's alternative newspaper made their voices heard about their favorite parts of it. The newspaper's readers also got to share who they enjoyed seeing on their TV screens, and their top pick is once again WCNC Charlotte's own chief meteorologist Brad Panovich," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
- "Camp North End will host the Mistletoe Market from December 3 through December 17. Guests can enjoy the festive nighttime market over three consecutive Saturdays. The 76-acre historic site will be transformed into a winter wonderland. ... There will be seasonal food and hot drinks to sip on, encased in a limited edition enamel mug. The event will feature vintage shops, small businesses, marshmallow roasting," WCCB Charlotte reports. (WCCB Charlotte)
- "New research shows there is cause for concern when it comes to the nursing shortage. Nurses are leaving the bedside at an alarming rate. It was an issue before the pandemic and leaders in the industry say it has only gotten worse because of the challenges COVID-19 presented. “The healthcare system just cannot exist without the nursing workforce,” Dennis Taylor with the North Carolina Nurses Association told WCNC Charlotte. Unfortunately, that workforce is shrinking," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
