  2. Mac Billings of Raleigh is accused of engaging in securities fraud through his company, Alpha Finance Company. Billings solicited people to invest in ALPHA with "debenture notes." According to Fox 46 Charlotte, he "promised the investors that their money would be used to make high-interest consumer loans that they would receive interest payments from." Instead, he used it to "make payments to other investors and to pay himself over $1 million in salary and distributions from ALPHA." 3. As summertime brings higher temperatures, families should be aware of heat-related statistics to help protect their children and pets. Kate Clark form Britax Child Safety has advice for parents and pet owners who will experience hot summer days. According to WCNC, "Many parents don't realize that a child's body temperature rises 3-5 times faster than an adult's, meaning it could only take 10 minutes for a child's condition to become life-threatening." They also don't know that in "just 15 minutes a pet can end up brain damaged or die due to heatstroke." Read the full article for more details. (WCNC.com)
  4. The airport can sometimes be a stressful place with fear-inducing factors such as the a long SA line, hearing your flight is canceled or delayed or having only 10 minutes to travel from Concourse A to C. The volunteers at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) Canine Crew hope to take away some of that stress by using professional therapy dogs! Each member of the crew wears a Pet Me dog vest, and handlers wear a CLT Canine Crew t-shirt. "Canine Crew volunteers welcome passengers with a smile and a wagging tail, spread joy through positive interactions, and help calm stressed passengers," said airport officials according to WCNC. 5. New information is being discovered about Daniel Printz, a Rutherford County man, found guilty of kidnapping and killing a Greenville County, S.C. woman. The FBI refers to him as a serial killer. On Tuesday, Printz pleaded guilty to the kidnapping and murder of 80-year-old Edna Suttles in 2021. According to WBTV, "he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and, as a result of a plea deal, will not be charged with anything else related to the case." Printz also had a role in the death of three other women. (WBTV)
  6. Over 100 Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus drivers missed work Wednesday. This caused delays for riders who were made aware of this situation when CATS tweeted, "Due to operator absences, expect intermittent delays on CATS bus routes." According to WCNC, "a total of 107 drivers were absent from work Wednesday. CATS didn't provide any explanation as to why the drivers were absent."(WCNC.com)
  7. Brooks' Sandwich House, a popular and loved local restaurant is said to have the best burger in North Carolina. It has been placed on a new list from Reader's Digest that names "The Best Burger in Every State." Food & Wine magazine named Brooks' as one of America's "Best Classic Restaurants." Just a few years before that, this popular place topped a list from Thrillist of the tastiest burgers in the Queen City. (The Business Journals)
