Man Awaiting Trial Caught After Cutting Off Device

Damiyus Damonte Fowler, who was awaiting trial for a stolen vehicle, cut off his court-ordered electronic monitor Thursday.

CHARLOTTE, NC — A suspect awaiting trial for possession of a stolen vehicle now faces fresh charges after he cut off a court-ordered electronic monitoring device, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Damiyus Damonte Fowler, 21, cut off the device May 17 in the area of the 3800 block of Audrey Street in Charlotte. He was later apprehended, CMPD said.

Fowler is wanted for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony probation violation, damage to property and interfering with an electronic monitoring device, and was wearing the device as a condition of pretrial release.
