Man Charged With Murder After Fatal Shooting Of Family Member: CMPD

A 29 year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday night in what Charlotte police are calling a "domestic related assault."

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A 29 year-old man is facing murder charges after fatally shooting a family member Wednesday night in what Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are calling a domestic assault.

Around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 20, CMPD officers responding to a call for a domestic related assault with a deadly weapon in the 2900 block of Dogwood Avenue found victim William Jerome Rann, Jr., 29, with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.

Also located at the scene, according to CMPD, was Michael Norman Smith, 29, who detectives identified as the main suspect in the shooting. After an interview with homicide detectives, Smith was charged with Rann’s murder.

CMPD says the investigation into the case remains open and asks anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600, or 704-432-TIPS to speak with a homicide detective.
