Man Charged With Murder After Shooting Victim Dies

Charlotte police have charged John Jeter for the murder of Willie Baker, who they found shot Oct. 9. He died a week later

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged a man with murder after his shooting victim died from gunshot wounds one week after being admitted into the hospital with his injuries.

CMPD responded to a call for help around 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9 in the 2900 block of Baltimore Avenue, where they found victim Willie Baker, 53, shot. Paramedics transported Baker to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment. Suspect John Jeter, 60, was found on the scene and was taken into custody for the assault with a deadly weapon.

CMPD homicide detectives have now charged Jeter with Baker’s murder, in addition to assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
