Man Charged In String Of UNCC, CPCC Sexual Batteries Cases
CMPD says this man is behind a string of reported sexual battery incidents last week in the CPCC and UNCC campus area of Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police have charged a 29-year-old man for a string of sexual battery cases that were reported last week on the campus of Central Piedmont Community College and the University of North Carolina - Charlotte.
A citizen tip made March 9 to 911 alerted police to a suspicious male on Education Way near the UNCC campus, which led Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers to pursue David Keith Kenney, 29, on foot before taking him into custody.
CMPD officers, including the department’s aviation unit and a K-9 unit, had been scouring the same area earlier searching for a suspect wanted for two sexual battery incidents and a trespass warrant on the campus of CPCC on Wednesday, March 7. After Kenney was taken to to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, he was served with warrants related to those incidents. At the time, CMPD also said they were investigating him as a person of interest in additional cases reported on the UNCC campus Friday night.

By Monday, CMPD had charged Kenney with the additional UNCC-related cases reported the evening of March 9, which included:
- sexual battery of a woman groped in Rite Aid located at 8532 University City Boulevard shortly before 7:30 p.m.
- sexual battery of a woman groped outside a restaurant about an hour later and less than a block away, at 8650 University City Boulevard
- Sexual battery of a woman who told police around 9 p.m. she was groped by a man at 9010 University City Boulevard who then fled the scene on foot
In addition to the three counts of sexual battery reported March 9, CMPD also charged him with one count of misdemeanor larceny.
