Man Escapes Kidnapping After Assault With Machete, Baseball Bat
A male victim told police Wednesday he had been held captive tied to a chair for three days in North Charlotte.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have launched an investigation into an alleged kidnapping and made four arrests after a man told them he was tied to a chair, held captive for three days and assaulted with a machete and baseball bat at a home in north Charlotte.
Officers were alerted to the incident Wednesday morning around 6:30 a.m. when a neighbor on Highlander Court called 911 to report that a man approached her car and told her that he had just escaped a kidnapping. The victim then called a family member to pick him up and they left the area, and met with police at another location.
The victim told police he willingly went to his friend’s house in the 8300 block of Highlander Court around 6 p.m. June 17.

“While he was there, the suspects, who he knew, made some accusations against the victim and proceeded to tie him to a chair and then assault him,” the police report said.
The suspects assaulted the victim numerous times with items such as a baseball bat and machete, which caused minor injuries, he told police. After three days, he was able to free himself and fled the house June 20.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives said they were able to develop probable cause on four suspects, and obtained warrants for their arrest. All of the suspects have been arrested and charged, CMPD said.
CMPD charged Carnis Ferdinand Poindexter Jr., 18; Monazha Thompson, 18; Mikkaala Marina Lewis, 31; and Carnis Ferdinand Poindexter Sr., 52 each with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, communicating threats, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Poindexter, Sr., was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
