Man Killed By Train While Walking Along Tracks: CMPD
Codey Alexander Humphreys, 25, was hit and killed by a train while he walked along the track after his truck became stuck in the mud.
CHARLOTTE, NC — An investigation is underway after a 25-year-old man thought to be walking to get help after his truck got stuck in the mud was struck and killed by a northbound Norfolk Southern Train Saturday evening.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded to rail tracks near Old Concord Road and John Kirk Drive shortly after 7 p.m. Feb. 1 after receiving an attempt-to-locate call reporting a person walking on the tracks.
They located a victim, who was identified as Codey Alexander Humphreys, 25, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the victim’s truck got stuck in the mud after he had driven it on the grass between the tracks and Old Concord Road,” CMPD said in a statement.
According to the police report, Humphreys had called a friend for help after his truck became stuck, and then began walking north between the track rails when he was hit by the train.

“The CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit is working with Norfolk Southern Railroad Police Investigators to determine the exact train that struck Mr. Humphreys,” CMPD said.
