Man Shot During Officer-Involved Shooting in Pineville
Pineville Police Department officers shot a man Saturday morning after responding to a call of the suspect waiving a handgun in public.

On Saturday February 1, 2020 at 10:04a.m., a quiet downtown Pineville turned into a massive crime scene after Pineville Police Department Officers were involved in a shooting. Pineville Police 911 Communications received a 911 call reporting a man waiving a handgun at ongoing trafficwhile walking on the sidewalk down the 900 block of North Polk Street Saturday morning.
Pineville Police Officers immediately responded to the area following the 911 call according to Pineville Police Department Lt. Corey Copley. Police say officers approached the man to investigate and attempt to talk to the subject. Lt. Copley said as officers attempted to speak with the man he turned towards the officers and displayed actions on what the officers believed to be an imminent threat to their safety and the safety of others.

Two Pineville officers fired their service weapons, striking the man. an undetermined amount of times. Multiple shell casings were seen scattered along North Polk Street just south of Main Street. Medical aid was immediately rendered to the man by officers according to a press release by Pineville Police Department.
The man was rushed to hospital by Mecklenburg EMS and was listed in critical condition following emergency surgery Pineville Police said. No officers or other bystanders were injured during the police-involved shooting. North Polk Street was covered in Crime Scene Tape as officers, detectives, crime scene technicians and agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation collected evidence and spoke to witnesses.

Pineville Police confirmed Saturday night that a handgun was found at the crime scene near were the man was shot. the two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave as standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting according to police. The NC State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is leading the investigation in conjunction with Pineville Police Department.
