Man Turns Himself In For Selling I-77 Construction Material

Charlotte police say Sydney Ellis sold materials meant for Interstate 77 construction to area recyclers 29 times.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A man wanted for 29 separate felonies after taking materials meant for construction along Interstate 77 and selling them to recyclers has turned himself into police, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Friday morning.

Apex Companies LLC notified Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dec 15 that someone on their payroll had been selling the materials from the company’s inventory since September 2017.

CMPD detectives determined that 30-year-old Sydney Ellis was the suspect, saying in a police report he picked up materials from a company site and took them to local recycling centers instead of to the construction site. CMPD has obtained 29 felony warrants for larceny by employee.
