Man Who Stole Ambulance, Crashed Into Cars Taken For Evaluation
The man got behind the wheel of the medic vehicle and drove into cars as paramedics tended to a patient in the back.
CHARLOTTE, NC — A man who attempted to steal an ambulance and rammed it into parked cars while two medics tended to a patient in the back was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, according to Charlotte police.
Video of the incident, which occurred around 11:20 a.m. Monday in the 5700 block of Executive Center Drive in east Charlotte, showed the man driving forward and pushing a sedan over a grassy median and onto the hood of another car. He then rammed the two cars into other parked vehicles before sprinting away on foot.
Charlotte police first received a call when the suspect, who has not yet been identified, was damaging property inside an office building.

“The suspect exited the building and began causing damage to vehicles in the parking lot,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a statement about the incident. “The suspect then located a MEDIC truck in the parking lot and proceeded to position himself in the driver’s seat while a patient was being treated by the two person MEDIC crew in the back of the truck.”
No one was injured during the incident, CMPD said. The suspect’s name will be released when he has been formally charged.
